Frequently Asked Questions

What is the course sequence for math? What will my next math course be, or what are my options?

I need math help! What should I do?

First, check with your teacher for times when they are available for extra help. You may also get help from students in Mu Alpha Theta or outside tutors. See the Math Tutoring section below for more information.

What is Mu Alpha Theta?(from  www.mualphatheta.org)

Mu Alpha Theta is the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society with over 75,000 student members in more than 1,500 schools. We are dedicated to inspiring keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject ,and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students. Mu Alpha Theta achieves these goals by:

  • Providing a method for schools to recognize and encourage those students who enjoy and excel in mathematics.
  • Rewarding outstanding extracurricular achievement by offering special awards to both students and their faculty advisors.
  • Providing Mathematics Competitions to participating members at their own school.

How do I join Mu Alpha Theta?
The sponsor for Mu Alpha Theta is Cassidy Maske. The membership drive occurs each Fall and is open to students who have completed Geometry Concepts and Connections and have maintained at least a 90 average in their math classes throughout high school. Attendance at meetings and service activities are required. See your math teacher for an application.

We recommend any calculator from the TI-84 family of calculators. These calculators may be used in any math class at PHS and in college.
